Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp fine sea salt
- 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
- Flaky salt, to finish
Steps
- 1Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat, swirling, until it smells nutty and turns deep amber, 5–7 minutes. Pour into a large bowl and cool 10 minutes.
- 2Whisk in brown sugar and granulated sugar until smooth. Add eggs and vanilla; whisk vigorously for 1 minute.
- 3Stir in flour, baking soda, and salt just until combined. Fold in chocolate. Chill dough 20 minutes.
- 4Heat oven to 375°F and line two sheet pans with parchment. Scoop 2-tbsp balls of dough about 2 inches apart.
- 5Bake 10–12 minutes until edges are golden and centers look set. Sprinkle with flaky salt and cool 5 minutes on the pan.
